Born in Ohio, K.M. Hanslik has been influenced by the rolling hills and expansive landscapes of both her home state as well as places such as Oregon and West Virginia. Using natural imagery as metaphor for life’s events, K.M. incorporates themes of naturalism, philosophy and psychology in her writing.

Hanslik’s debut book of poetry, “Bones,” explores themes of identity, transformation, and unearthing old parts of ourselves. Published in 2026, Bones features the art of illustrator Kate Efimochkina, whose primary focus is naturalism.

In addition to writing, Hanslik enjoys gardening, painting, and birdwatching. She serves as an editor for The Turning Leaf Journal, a literary journal whose theme centers the message of change and “turning a new leaf.” Read more about her projects and published work in her portfolio.
